The Keesaragutta Temple, established in 100 BCE, is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati. Situated on a hillock in Keesara Village, Telangana, about 30 km from Hyderabad, it is a major pilgrimage site, especially during Maha Shivaratri and the Kartika month.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered ruins of brick structures and Shiva Lingas from the Chalukyan era, indicating the coexistence of Jainism and Buddhism alongside Hinduism. A 5th-century Telugu inscription, the earliest known in Telangana, was also discovered on a nearby rock-cut cave.
