    The temple is mentioned in the Brahmanda Purana as Patalika Vanam and Uttama Kshetram. According to legend, Brahma boasted about his long life. Sage Romas did penance here, and Vishnu appeared before him as Trivikrama. Vishnu granted the sage a longer life than Brahma's, with each falling hair of the sage reducing Brahma's life by one year.The Bhagavata Purana describes Vishnu's Vamana avatar, who appeared to restore Indra's authority over the heavens.
