Legends Beliefs
Legends and BeliefsAccording to legend, Lord Sri Rama installed the main idol of Lord Shiva at this temple. Hanuman brought a divine Sivalinga from the Himalayas, but Lord Rama had already consecrated an earthen Linga. Hanuman tried to replace it but failed, leading to the formation of a small hillock. Hanuman then sought permission to stay near the Divya Prathishta forever.Another legend involves Sage Vilwamangalam, who had a vision of Hanuman sitting on a tree branch. He prayed to Hanuman to sit in the inner courtyard near Lord Shiva. Hanuman granted his wish, and a separate sanctum was later built for him in 1934.
