This directive was communicated to local authorities in Velichai, Kundrathur, and Kasayavakkam. The village, originally known as Kulathur, has since evolved into its present name, Kolathur. The temple underwent significant renovations, culminating in the Ashta Bandhana Jeernodharana Maha Samprokshanam on August 24, 2003, with the participation of Sriperumbudur Jeeyar Swamy.
