The Kailasanathar Temple in Srivaikuntam was originally built by the Pandya king, Chandrakula Pandya. He constructed the central shrine and vimana of the temple. Veerappa Nayaka, a ruler of the Madurai Nayak dynasty, added the Yagasala, flagstaff, and Sandana Sababathy hall. The temple is now maintained by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
