The Govindarajaswamy Temple in Tirupati, built in the 12th century and consecrated by Ramanuja in 1130 AD, is one of the city's oldest and most historic temples. Initially, Parthasarathy was the presiding deity before Govindaraja took prominence. The village of Kotturu, once at the foot of the Tirumala hills, was relocated near the temple and later integrated into Tirupati. The temple is now managed by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
