The temple's origins are linked to the Mahabharata's 'Khandava Dahanam' episode. Agni, the fire god, suffering from a stomach ailment, was advised by Lord Brahma to consume the Khandava forest. However, Indra, protecting his friend Takshaka residing in the forest, thwarted Agni's attempts with rain. Seeking assistance, Agni approached Lord Krishna and Arjuna. With their help, Agni consumed the forest, curing his ailment. In gratitude, Agni wished to install an idol of Lord Vishnu. Following Lord Krishna's guidance, Arjuna shot an arrow to determine the temple's location, leading to the establishment of the Evoor temple. The name 'Evoor' is derived from 'Eythoor,' meaning 'place where the arrow was shot.' The temple was reconstructed in the 19th century by King Moolam Thirunal after a fire destroyed the original structure.
