The villagers prayed to Lord Rama, who is believed to have created a fence of arrows around the lake, preventing the breach and saving the village. In gratitude, the villagers constructed this temple on the lake's banks. Additionally, the temple is associated with the birth of Mudaliyandan, a disciple and associate of Saint Ramanuja. It is believed that Lord Rama appeared in the dream of Sri Anantha Narayana Dikshitar, promising the birth of a son who would be an amsam (incarnation) of Lord Rama. This son, named Dasarathi, later became known as Mudaliyandan.
