The Eklingji temple, built in the 8th century, was originally constructed by Bappa Rawal. It faced destruction during invasions by the Delhi Sultanate. The earliest idol was installed by Hamir Singh in the 14th century. Rana Kumbha rebuilt the temple and added a Vishnu temple in the 15th century.
In the late 15th century, Ghiyath Shah attacked Mewar and damaged the temple. Rana Raimal captured him and used the ransom for the temple's last major rebuilding. The temple likely belonged to the Pashupata sect initially and later came under the Nath sect, before being controlled by the Ramanandis in the 16th century.
