During a flood, a chest containing an idol of Lord Krishna was found floating in the Periyar River. The head of Veliyamkol Mana retrieved the chest and enshrined the idol in a temporary shrine on his property. Over time, a permanent temple was constructed at Chelamattom, and the idol was ceremoniously installed. The temple complex also houses deities representing Lord Vishnu's avatars: Narasimha and Vamana. The temple is known as 'Dakshina Kasi' due to its significance in performing ancestral rites, particularly the Bali Tharpanam ritual.
