The Bhu Varaha Swamy temple is located in Srimushnam, Tamil Nadu. It was built by the Thanjavur Nayak king Achuthappa Nayak, a vassal of the Vijayanagara Empire. The temple has inscriptions dating back to the Chola period, indicating its long history.
The temple was expanded by Achuthappa Nayak between 1560 and 1614 CE. The life-size images of the king and his brothers are found in the sixteen-pillared hall of the temple. Inscriptions from the Chola and Vijayanagara periods indicate various gifts to the temple.
The temple has contributions from the Zamindars of Udayarpalayam, who offered costly jewels and commissioned additional structures. The temple is maintained by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
