Bhadrakali Temple, one of the oldest shrines dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, is perched on a hilltop between Hanamkonda and Warangal in Telangana.According to inscriptions on the temple wall, King Pulakeshin II of the Chalukya dynasty built the temple in 625 CE to commemorate his victory over the Vengi region of Andhra Desham. The Kakatiya kings later adopted the temple, venerating Goddess Bhadrakali as their Kuladevata. King Ganapati Deva also built a lake adjacent to the temple. However, with the fall of the Kakatiya dynasty to the Delhi Sultanate, the temple lost its prominence. To prevent an invasion, the Kakatiyas negotiated a truce with Alauddin Khilji by offering the famed diamond, which was transported by his confidant, Malik Kafur.
In 1950, Sri Ganesh Rao Sastri, a Devi Upasaka, along with Gujarati businessman Shri Maganlal Sameja, led the temple's renovation with support from the local community. Apara Ekadashi is observed as Goddess Bhadrakali Ekadashi. The temple is also linked to the history of the Koh-i-Noor diamond, which was once installed as the left eye of Goddess Bhadrakali by the Kakatiya dynasty.
