The Azhagiya Manavalan Perumal Temple is believed to have been built by the Medieval Cholas in the late 8th century CE. Later contributions came from the Pandyas, Vijayanagar kings, and Madurai Nayaks. The temple is maintained by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
