Ayyappa Temple History and Significance

According to legend, the temple was established by Nallur Kartha, a Nair noble of Perumbavoor. He employed two boys as servants, compensating them with raw rice daily. Noticing the boys taking raw rice and Tulasi leaves to a Palmyra tree, Kartha followed them and witnessed their mysterious disappearance. That night, Lord Ayyappa appeared in Kartha's dream, revealing that He and His friend had been working as the servants. The Lord instructed Kartha to construct a temple for them, providing gold coins beneath the Palmyra tree for the purpose.
