In the 1960s, a neem tree stood where the temple's sanctum sanctorum is today. This tree secreted sweet nectar, unlike other neem trees. Villagers found that tasting this nectar cured illnesses. In 1966, a storm uprooted the tree, revealing a Swayambu underneath. A small hut was built over it, and poojas began.
The Swayambu was worshipped for many years. On November 25, 1977, the idol of Mother Adi Parashakti was installed. The idol is three feet tall, seated on a thousand-petalled lotus, holding a lotus bud and the mudhra of knowledge. Her hair is plaited and knotted upwards like a crown.
