  • Legends Beliefs
    According to legend, King Ubhamanyu earned the wrath of sage Durvasa and lost his physical strength. To rid himself of the curse, he was asked to feed one lakh people daily. Vishnu, disguised as an old man, consumed all the food prepared for the people and asked for a pot of Neyyaappam, which fulfilled his hunger. The king realised it was Vishnu and was relieved of the curse.The temple is also believed to be where sage Markandeya was liberated from his curse by Yama. The presiding deity, Ranganatha, is believed to have crushed Indra's pride. The place is called Koviladi because it is downstream of the Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple, referred to as 'kovil' in Vaishnava tradition.

The chariot festival is the most prominent, celebrated during the Tamil month of Panguni, where devotees pull the temple chariot housing the festival deity around the streets of Koviladi.Other festivals include Vaikuntha Ekadashi, Navarathri, and the butter pot breaking ceremony (uri adi).
