The temple's origins trace back to 1938 when it was constructed under the directive of Amma Maharani, the mother of Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. According to legend, while residing at the Aluva Palace, the Maharani experienced severe stomach pain and prayed to Lord Krishna for relief. In a dream, Lord Krishna revealed the presence of buried idols at Karukutty, approximately 15 kilometers from Aluva. Upon excavation, two idols were discovered: one of Lord Balarama and another of Lord Krishna. Consequently, the temple was established, with the idol of Balarama installed in 1938 and the idol of Krishna consecrated later in 1984. This temple stands out as one of the rarest where the idols of Lord Krishna and Lord Balarama face opposite directions.
