When Yasin Bhatkal, the head of the Indian Mujahideen was arrested three years ago, it was a major blow for the outfit.

The IM collapsed following his arrest. Moreover, this also led to a spate of other arrests too and this ended the run of the Indian Mujahideen.

Bhatkal was an important figure in the Indian Mujahideen. Unlike Riyaz Bhatkal who is driven by money and luxury, Yasin always felt that he was bombing for a cause and this meant he was ideologically driven.

In fact, as per his dossier in the possession of OneIndia, he had a falling out with Riyaz Bhatkal over this issue and had warned that he would join hands with the ISIS.

The importance of Yasin Bhatkal:

The ISIS did manage to set up its Indian operations with the help of cadres such as Shafi and Sultan Armar. The first Indian outfit for the ISIS was known as the Ansar-ul-Tawhid.

However, with the death of Shafi Armar and the heat on the AuT rising, they decided to change its name to Junood-ul-Khalifa-e-Hind.

Most of the operatives who run this group were in some way or the other associated with the Indian Mujahideen in the past. All these persons follow the Yasin Bhatkal school of thought.

While they have managed to set up an outfit, they lack in plotting and planning. While Shafi Armar was always the ideological head even while he was with the Indian Mujahideen, it was Yasin who had this skill of meticulous planning. He knew how to carry out a blast by dodging the agencies.

Now with Yasin behind bars, most of the operatives feel that they should plan his escape. Twice in the past year there has been a plot to have him released.

Last year, when he was in the Hyderabad jail, there was a plot being hatched to help him escape. The plan was to carry out a blast at a nearby place when he was being produced before the court. Taking advantage of the confusion, they planned on taking him away.

Now the NIA is probing a similar plot. This plot came to light during the investigation of Mohammad Nafees, a Hyderabad based youth.

He along with another person, Ashik who was recently arrested in West Bengal were hatching a plan to take Yasin out of the Tihar jail where he is currently lodged.

The multiple plans being hatched to get Yasin out only suggests the desperation of these youth. Investigators say that these operatives are clearly on the backfoot.

Yasin thought big and even planned big. Moreover he had been successful and had made the IM a deadly outfit. These persons who are plotting his escape clearly miss Yasin's skills and hence the desperate attempts to get him out of jail.
