US President Donald Trump Extends Republic Day Greetings To India, Highlights Shared Democratic Values

US President Donald Trump on Monday sent warm greetings to India on the occasion of its 77th Republic Day. The message was shared by the US Embassy in New Delhi as celebrations took place across the country.

In his message, Trump highlighted the strong democratic values shared by both nations. He congratulated the Indian government and its people, calling Republic Day an important moment that reflects India's constitutional spirit and democratic traditions.

Shared Democratic Values Highlighted

President Trump described India and the United States as partners bound by history and common ideals. He said both countries take pride in being democracies and noted that this shared foundation continues to strengthen bilateral ties.

The US Embassy in New Delhi also marked the occasion by sharing a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump from Modi's state visit to Washington last year, underlining the continued engagement between the two leaders.

Greetings Come Amid Trade Tensions

Trump's Republic Day message comes at a time when India-US relations are facing challenges. Ties have recently come under strain following Washington's decision to impose steep tariffs on certain Indian products.

The US has announced a 50 per cent tariff on some goods, including a 25 per cent penalty related to India's purchase of Russian oil. India has strongly criticised the move, calling it unfair, and has said it will take necessary steps to protect its economic interests.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also conveyed his greetings to India, praising the growing cooperation between the two countries. He said the partnership between New Delhi and Washington continues to expand across various sectors.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, attended the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path.

Calling it a proud moment, he wished India a happy Republic Day and said the celebrations reflect the strength of India's Constitution and democratic values.

Despite current challenges, the messages from US leaders underscored the importance both nations place on their long-standing relationship and shared commitment to democracy.
