Delhi Police Hands Over Delhi Blast Probe to NIA, 3 More Doctors From Al‑Falah University Detained

As the investigation into the deadly blast near Delhi's Red Fort expands, the Delhi Police have detained three more doctors from Al-Falah University in Faridabad. The explosion, which killed nine people and injured over 20, has now come under the purview of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), marking a major escalation in the probe into possible terror links.

Crime Branch Raids Al-Falah University

Early Tuesday morning, a team from the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrived at Al-Falah University to question staff and examine CCTV footage. Investigators are focusing on three doctors whose names surfaced during inquiries into the Faridabad explosives seizure and the subsequent Red Fort blast.

The detained doctors have been identified as Dr Muzammil Shakeel, Dr Umar Mohammed, and Dr Shaheen Shahid. According to investigators, Muzammil and Umar hail from Kashmir, while Shaheen is from Lucknow. All three were working at the university's hospital in Faridabad.

Explosives Haul Links Muzammil to Terror Network

Dr Muzammil's name first appeared during the probe into a massive cache of explosives uncovered in Faridabad. Officials seized nearly 2,900 kg of bomb-making materials, along with other suspicious items, from two rooms rented by him. Investigators noted that Muzammil had rented these rooms despite residing on the university campus, raising suspicions about their use.

In addition, police found assault rifles and ammunition inside a car belonging to Muzammil's colleague, Dr Shaheen Shahid. Shahid, as per investigation findings, was allegedly tasked with leading the India chapter of Jaish-e-Mohammed's women's wing, Jamaat ul-Mominaat. This outfit is reportedly headed by Sadia Azhar, sister of Jaish founder Masood Azhar.

Suspected Suicide Bomber Linked to Al-Falah

The Red Fort explosion occurred shortly after the recovery of the explosives in Faridabad, prompting investigators to look for potential connections. Sources have revealed that Dr Umar Mohammed, another Al-Falah doctor and close associate of Muzammil, is suspected to have been the driver of the Hyundai i20 that exploded near a traffic signal close to the fort.

Officials believe Umar may have carried out a suicide attack after the crackdown on his associates exposed the terror network. The NIA will now lead the investigation to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and possible cross-border involvement.
