Why Karnataka’s 'Millets to Microchip' Tableau Missed the Republic Day Parade This Year

Republic Day 2026 celebrations wrapped up in Delhi with a spectacular display of India's pride and heritage. The parade on Kartavya Path drew huge crowds eager to see marching contingents, fighter jets, and cultural tableaux. However, this year, Karnataka's tableau, themed "Millets to Microchip," was not part of the main parade. Instead, it was showcased at Bharat Parv at the Red Fort, giving visitors a closer look at the state's journey from traditional agriculture to modern technological innovations.

Karnataka's Tableau at Bharat Parv Instead

The state's tableau, themed "Millets to Microchip", will instead be displayed at Bharat Parv, the 30-day cultural festival held at the Red Fort. According to officials, the theme was not selected for the main parade this year. The Bharat Parv platform allows states and Union Territories to showcase regional cuisines, handicrafts, and innovations, making it a fitting alternative for Karnataka's display.

Officials from the Information Department noted that, following a 2022 Union Government decision, states and UTs participate alternately in the Republic Day parade and Bharat Parv. This likely explains Karnataka's absence from the Kartavya Path procession in 2026.

Tableau Created at ₹2 Crore, Highlights State's Progress

The Karnataka tableau was built at a cost of ₹2 crore by a team of 200 craftsmen deployed in Delhi. While the team reportedly wished to see it in the parade, the Red Fort exhibition still offers a wide audience. The display celebrates Karnataka's indigenous roots and technological achievements, featuring farmers cultivating millets, aerospace technology, telemedicine, a woman operating a drone, and a rising sun symbolising progress and mobility.

This year's tableau captures the state's journey from traditional agriculture to modern innovation, reflecting both its heritage and its ambitions for the future.

Visitors to Bharat Parv at the Red Fort can experience Karnataka's vibrant display throughout the 30-day festival. While it may miss the national spotlight on Kartavya Path, the tableau continues to represent the state's contribution to India's cultural and technological story.
