Mahesh Babu Brings South India’s First Dolby Cinema to Bengaluru with AMB Cinemas Kapali

Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu is expanding his business ventures with the launch of AMB Cinemas in Bengaluru, set to open on 16 January 2026. The new multiplex, located in Gandhinagar, one of Bengaluru's historic cinema hubs, revives the legacy of the famed Kapali Theatre while introducing a premium cinematic experience to the city.

AMB Cinemas Kapali: A Premium Multiplex Experience

The Bengaluru property will feature nine state-of-the-art screens, each 60 feet wide, with a seating capacity of around 600 viewers per screen. Notably, it will house South India's first Dolby Cinema combining Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technology, offering high-contrast visuals, immersive sound, and luxurious interiors designed for maximum comfort. This large-format screen is the second-largest Dolby Cinema screen in India, elevating Bengaluru's premium theatre offerings alongside formats like IMAX.

Timeline and Launch Updates

Originally scheduled for a December 2025 opening, the launch was postponed to 16 January 2026 due to construction delays. Mahesh Babu highlighted the project's significance with a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Makar Sankranti, 14 January, saying:

"The doors formally open at AMB Cinemas in Bengaluru on Jan 16th with South India's first Dolby Cinema experience! Extremely proud of TEAM AMB for putting in an extraordinary effort to see this through ... Looking forward to seeing u all very soon in Namma Bengaluru..."

With this launch, Bengaluru joins Pune as one of the few cities in India to feature a Dolby Cinema screen. Hyderabad-based AMB Cinemas has already earned a reputation for plush seating, immersive screens, and premium experiences, and the Bengaluru venture represents the brand's expansion into a second major southern market.

Mahesh Babu entered the exhibition business in 2019, partnering with Asian Cinemas to establish AMB Cinemas. The chain has since been synonymous with high-quality viewing experiences in Hyderabad, and the Bengaluru project continues that legacy on a site that holds nostalgic value for cinephiles.

The new AMB Cinemas Kapali honors the historic location of Kapali Theatre while giving it a modern identity. Cinephiles in Bengaluru now have a new reason to return to theatres, experiencing regional and Hindi films in one of the country's most advanced cinema formats.
