KSIC T. Narasipura Mysore Silk Factory Will Not Be Closed, Karnataka Govt Clarifies

The Karnataka government has clarified in the Legislative Assembly that the silk saree factory in T. Narasipura, Mysuru district, will not be shut down. Silk Department Minister K. Venkatesh announced that the factory will continue functioning at its present location. He also confirmed that the earlier proposal to construct a stadium on the factory land has been dropped.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka welcomed the decision, saying the continuation of the factory would benefit workers and the traditional silk industry in the region.

The minister explained that the government had earlier received incorrect information regarding the land where the factory operates. Some had suggested that the area could be used for building a stadium. However, after reviewing the matter, the government decided not to proceed with that plan and to retain the factory at the same site.

Assembly Discussion on T. Narasipura Silk Factory

The issue came up during a discussion in the Assembly on matters related to the Silk Department. Legislators raised questions about several topics, including the sale process of silk sarees, long queues of customers and the department's operations.

During the debate, R. Ashoka referred to reports suggesting that the government might close the T. Narasipura silk factory. Seeking clarification, he asked whether such a move was being considered.

Responding to the concern, Minister K. Venkatesh firmly stated that there is no proposal to shut down the factory. He reiterated that the government's decision is clear and that the unit will continue operating as usual. Following this assurance, the opposition acknowledged the clarification and expressed support for the decision.

Strong Demand for Mysuru Silk Sarees

The minister also highlighted the strong demand for silk sarees produced in Mysuru. The T. Narasipura factory currently manufactures around 300 to 400 sarees per day, with a strong focus on maintaining quality standards. The department is also considering ways to increase production in the future.

According to officials, the sarees produced at the factory are popular not only in Karnataka but also in other states, reflecting the reputation of Mysuru silk.

Concerns Over Saree Sales System

During the discussion, Mysuru BJP MLA Srivatsa pointed out that the sales process for sarees produced by the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) could be improved. He said customers often have to stand in long queues to purchase sarees, especially during special sale events.

In particular, during "seconds sale" events, when sarees are offered at discounted prices, large crowds gather at the outlets. This results in longer waiting times for customers.

The MLA noted that while the high turnout shows the popularity of Mysuru silk sarees, the sales system should be made more convenient for buyers.

Government Considering Changes to Sales System

Responding to these concerns, Minister K. Venkatesh said the government is examining ways to improve the saree sales system. Instead of relying mainly on online sales, the government is considering giving more importance to local retail sales.

The aim, he said, is to create a system that benefits workers, small traders and local communities in the Mysuru and T. Narasipura region. The minister assured the Assembly that the government will work toward making the sales process more accessible and efficient while supporting the traditional silk industry.
