Karnataka Weather Alert: IMD Rules Out Rain, Cool Nights Ahead; Bengaluru Day Temperature Near 31°C

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dry weather across Karnataka for the next seven days, with no rainfall expected in Coastal, North Interior and South Interior Karnataka. According to the Karnataka State Forecast issued on January 16, 2026, all districts are likely to remain dry till January 21, with the probability of dry conditions marked as "very likely" across regions.

Dry weather to persist across Karnataka

In Coastal Karnataka, districts such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are expected to witness continued dry conditions throughout the forecast period. IMD has stated that there will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over Coastal Karnataka for the next five days, indicating stable night temperatures.

Across North Interior Karnataka, dry weather will prevail in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Raichur, Yadgir, Ballari, Koppala, Gadag, Dharwad, Haveri, Bagalkote and Belagavi. IMD noted that minimum temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged for the next three days, after which a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is expected, pointing to colder nights towards the latter half of the forecast period.

Similarly, South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagar and Chikkaballapura, is expected to remain dry. IMD has forecast no major change in minimum temperatures over South Interior Karnataka for the next five days, suggesting continued cool but stable night conditions.

Bengaluru weather forecast

For Bengaluru, IMD has predicted a mainly clear sky, with mist likely during early morning hours in some areas. On January 17, the city is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky, with early morning mist. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 31°C, while the minimum may hover near 18°C.

Similar conditions are expected on January 18, with a partly cloudy sky and mist during early morning hours. The maximum temperature is forecast at 31°C, while the minimum is expected to remain around 18°C.

Karnataka records chilly nights

Several districts across Karnataka have recorded low minimum temperatures. Bidar and Mysuru emerged as the coldest districts at 13°C, followed by Hassan at 13.2°C and Chikkaballapura at 13.5°C.

In the Bengaluru region, night temperatures dipped further, with Bengaluru Rural and Chamarajanagara recording 13.6°C, Tumakuru at 13.8°C, and Chikkamagaluru and Mandya at 13.9°C. Kolar reported a minimum of 14°C, while Davanagere stood at 14.2°C.

Bengaluru Urban and Shivamogga recorded minimum temperatures of 14.3°C, followed by Bengaluru South at 14.4°C and Vijayapura at 14.6°C. Kodagu saw a minimum temperature of 14.7°C, while Vijayanagara recorded 14.8°C.

Further north, Belagavi recorded 14.9°C, Haveri 15°C, and Koppala 15.3°C. Chitradurga and Dharwad recorded 15.4°C, while Bagalkote and Gadag stood at 15.8°C and 15.9°C respectively. Kalaburagi also reported 15.9°C, with Uttara Kannada at 16°C.

Warmer night temperatures were observed in Ballari (16.8°C), Raichur (17.5°C) and Yadgir (18°C). Coastal districts remained the warmest, with Dakshina Kannada recording 21°C and Udupi at 21.9°C.

No weather warnings for Karnataka

IMD has not issued any rainfall warnings, thunderstorm alerts, heatwave or cold wave advisories for Karnataka during this period. The overall assessment points to calm, dry winter conditions, typical of mid-January.

Wider weather systems at play

Meanwhile, IMD said conditions are becoming favourable for the cessation of Northeast monsoon rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, and adjoining regions of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka over the next two days.

IMD also noted the presence of a subtropical westerly jet stream with core winds of around 125 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level over northwest India. An upper air cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep and the adjoining southeast Arabian Sea off the Kerala coast continues to persist.

A western disturbance currently extending across the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies is influencing weather patterns over northwest India. Another fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from January 19, 2026, IMD said.
