Assam Rifles Jawan Killed, Four Injured In Suspected IED Blast Targeting Security Vehicle In Nagaland


A suspected IED blast hit the Assam Rifle vehicle near Sukhoi, Nagaland on Monday, that resulted one person dead, and four others injured. The security forces have started searching operation in the area, while official update about the incident is yet to come.

Search Operation Underway After Blast

Reportedly the attack took place at near Sukhovi while hitting the Assam Rifles vehicle that leaving death of one personnel and inured to four Assam Rifle jawans. After the attack, the jawans cordoned off the area and started search operation to the attackers.

The search team is still roaming around and more information are awaited to come, the officials have not revealed the names of the victims.

Second Attack On Assam Rifles Within A Week

This is the second attack on Assam Rifles within a week after one deadly attack on 6 July, where militants ambushed the 40th Battalion of the Assam Rifle convoy in Manipur's Ukhrul district.

This attack was exchange of fire between militants and army jawans, which later resulted in a long search-operation. Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman CM Singh were injured in that attack, despite immediate treatment they later succumbed to death.

Militants Have Frequently Targeted Assam Rifles

Interestingly, Assam Rifles have been a continuous target of militants operating in Northeast for almost several decades. Their convoys have been repeatedly attacked during routine patrols and sensitive borders. In November, four Assam Rifles personnel were injured in an open fire attack on a patrolling team in Manipur's Tengnoupal district. The attack took place in Border Pillar no' 87, close to Saibol village where team was conducting a routine patrol.
