One must know that the second Board examination was introduced in 2026 this year as a part of the National Education Policy 2020, that allows the students a second opportunity to improve their marks without waiting for the next academic year. The pattern of conducting two board exams was implemented by CBSE this year for Class 10. The main examination was held from February 17 to March 11, 2026, while the second Board exam took place from May 15 to May 21, 2026. According to the data released by CBSE, 6,64,027 students registered for the second board examination, while 6,63,777 students appeared. Among them, 5,13,955 students took the examination to improve their marks. Out of these, 3,08,095 students, or 59.95%, managed to improve their performance compared to the main examination. This new policy gave the compartment students another chance to pass. According to the CBSE, a total of 1,49,822 students appeared in the compartment category and 78,503 students successfully cleared the examination. This translates to a 52.40% pass percentage in the compartment category. The result marks an improvement over last year, when the compartment pass percentage stood at 48.68%.
