Amritsar, Nov 4 (UNI) Feeling the pulse of modern era, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal impressed upon the need to attune the prototype students of schools and universities to the social realities and economic changes. He said quality commercial, technical, agricultural, professional and job oriented education should be imparted but due consideration should be given to building the personality of the students.

Mr Badal expressed these views while delivering his presidential address on the concluding day of 62nd All India Sikh Educational Conference dedicated to the Tri Centenary of Gurgaddi Diwas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, held at Sri Guru Harkrishan International School, Amritsar.

He said that it has been deeply felt that along with bookish knowledge there must be good training of the mind of the students so that they should inculcate human feelings and work as disciplined soldiers. He said that we must remember that man can not live by bread and butter alone; values of life should not be sacrificed at the altar of intellectual accomplishments. "The happiness and prosperity of a nation largely depends on the education, enthusiasm and devotion of its youth" he added.

Lauding the role of Chief Khalsa Diwan, Mr. Badal said that the service by Chief Khalsa Diwan in the field of religious, social, political, cultural and educational development is praiseworthy. In fact, since the very conception of Chief Khalsa Diwan, it has rendered unparallel social service. Sikh community would always remain indebted to Chief Khalsa Diwan which paved way for Sikh Gurdwara Act, Sikh Marriage Act and played an eminent role in setting up Khalsa College. Its educational conferences have also added a lot to the educational development. Mr. Badal said that nearly 70% population in our Country and our State is downtrodden so Government is trying its best to impart education to the underprivileged at par with students from affluent strata. The Punjab Government has made a provision of Rs. 75 crore to set up Adarsh Schools which would provide quality education to the poor and intelligent students. Special attention would be paid to raising educational infrastructure in border areas as well. He appealed to the members of Chief Khalsa Diwan, Shiromani gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to try to set up their educational institutions in border areas. Getting emotional, Chief Minister opined that a special 10 Year Plan be made in the country to ensure 100% literacy in the nation.
