Imphal, Sep 15 (UNI) Manipur Education Minister L Jayentakumar Singh has asserted that the state government is committed to achieve the national goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education (UEE).

The UEE has been accepted since 1950 for equalisation of educational opportunities with emphasis on removal of disparities by attending to specific needs.

Mr Singh said here yesterday that depending upon the existing institutions, mushrooming of different schools and intellectual cultures as well as the need to avoid overlapping of responsibilities, the state government was constrained to take up community-based education for better management of school administration to provide effective education thereby resulting in formation of School Management Development Committee, which shares school administration and looks after the welfare of the school.

He claimed that the government had made considerable effort to upgrade school infrastructures, including school buildings, libraries and science equipment.

Presently, the government was in the process of providing quarters for teachers and hostels for students under different centrally sponsored schemes, the minister also said.

''There shall be no compromise with respect to education so that every student, irrespective of caste, creed and culture, would get the benefits,'' he added.
