New Delhi, July 6: Students who flunk formal school board examination can now enter open school online and save ''almost one year,'' authorities say.

The National Institute of Open Schooling has opened its doors wider by initiating admissions online.

The NIOS Online-- Ni-On-- Admission 2007 facility launched by Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh will put students in direct touch with the Open School.

The move is expected to put out of business middlemen offering potential learners so-called ''support services'' for admission or other help.

The measure is expected to boost Open School enrolment and aid government efforts to universalise Secondary Education.

The Open school has set up three streams for admission seekers to pick: -- Learners can access the first Stream through www.nos.org for admission-- picking study centres of their own choice; -- Students flunking school board examination can take the 2nd Stream and October-November Open School Public Examinations-- with results out in December-- and save ''almost one year.'' -- The 3rd Stream is for students who wish to take On Demand Examination at Secondary level when they feel academically ready.

The last two streams are designed as a 'safety net' for unsuccessful learners of Formal School System who wish to save precious time and carry on with higher studies or job pursuit.

Learners will have access to study material online and better quality teaching-learning process.
