Patna, May 27 (UNI) The US-based Institute for One World Health (IOWH) is all set to launch a post-approval Phase 4 clinical trial of Paromomycin IM injection, a wonder drug, in Bihar.

The drug would be marketed at Rs 800 for a 21-day treatment of Kala-azar, the world's second most deadly parasite after malaria.

IOWH spokesperson (India) KVS Prasad said the trial would be carried out in the aftermath of the regulatory approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for Paromomycin IM injection for the treatment.

Earlier this week, IOWH had announced that World Health Organisation (WHO) had recommended for inclusion of this drug in the model list of essential medicines.

IOWH Co-founder and Chief Medical officer Dr Ahvie Herskowitz had maintained on the occasion that inclusion of this drug into WHO essential medicines proved the tested effectiveness of the Paromomycin IM injection to check the spread of Kala-azar.
