Bangalore, Apr 18 (UNI) Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti today ruled out the immediate introduction of sex education at high school level in the state.

Speaking after a meeting with the experts and teachers on the issue, he told reporters here that the government would follow democratic process in implementing the sex education in schools only after going through the pros and cons of sex education as there was a wide spread opposition to it.

He said the government had received four modules presented by four different institutions on sex education.

"The government would take the final decision on the issue only after a thorough debate on the subject," he said.

However, the decision on whether to continue the training being provided to teachers on sex education would be taken in the next two weeks, he said.

The speakers, including teachers, broadly agreed the need for sexual ethics. However criticised the module, particularly the one presented by United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF) and National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) saying that it was heavily oriented towards marketing of condoms with an intention to make HIV/AIDS an industry at the cost of children.

Many teachers also took strong objection to the book prepared UNICEF and NACO for including the illustrations which were not acceptable to Indian culture.

They also expressed apprehensions about the students getting sexually provoked by these illustrations.
