Aurangabad, Apr 15 (UNI) Dr Giridhar Karajgaonkar's new four-step mechanism of "Pranayam" has helped several people to remain fit and alert, besides making them strong.

A medical practitioner for the past 25 years, Dr Girdhar Karajgaonkar derived the new technique by studying 1,600 patients, in a batch of 50 people each, as part of his research where he recorded the pre and post effects of Pranayam on them.

The first of the four-step mechanism includes 'Purak', which involves slow, steady and deep inhalation of air. It is followed by 'Anter Kumbhak', wherein the person has to hold his breath for half the time of respiration. Then in 'Rechak' the air is exhaled slowly and steadily, slightly more than 'Purak', while making sound with the air from the throat and finally in 'Madhya Kumbhak' he holds the breath after exhalation.

Throughout the process, the person has to compulsorily sit in Vajrasana pose as it helps increase blood circulation, Dr Karajgaonkar said.

This new technique derived by Dr Karajgaonkar leads to activation of parasympathetic system and also increase in blood circulation.

Within a month, those who offered themselves for different tests, experienced wonderful effects due to the practise of Pranayam.

He said, ''my research found that diseases are cent per cent psychosomatic in origin unlike general assumption that 80 per cent of the diseases were organic while the remaining 20 per cent were psychosomatic in nature.'' Although there are no medicine in the world to control mind, the answer lies in Pranayam, meditation and proper diet pattern as they are cost-effective and have no side-effects, he said.

He cites stress as the root cause of all problems including hypertension, diabetes, depression and obesity that are the most commonly faced problems by a person in his or her lifetime.

''Thought is a form of energy and we spend more energy due to stress. Each voluntary and involuntary action of the body requires energy. When the generation of energy is low and expenses are higher, body cells begin to stop functioning and gradually shut down, and that is the root cause of diseases,'' he said.

The Pranayam technique enhances energy levels, which in turn activates inactive cells of the body, thus restoring the disturbed physiology.

''No medicine works to restore disturbed physiology and non-functioning cells. If one has to restore his energy, there are two options - either you generate or conserve it. For generation of energy Pranayama is the only methodology while meditation is the only solution for conservation of energy,'' he said.

Dr Sudhakar More, who also practised Dr Karajgaonkar's Pranayam technique, said ''It is a great mechanism to reduce strain, which is the root cause of all diseases.'' Dr Karajgaonkar has so far trained over 10,000 people for free in the new technique of Pranayam, since 2000, when he derived the technique.
