Jammu, Apr 6 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has stressed on moral education for children and said imparting value based education to them at the school level could nurture their moral character as well as academic career.

Addressing students and teachers at a function here yesterday, he said the inculcation of moral education in children should be made a corner pillar of the education system and earnest attention must be devoted to realise this significant goal.

''The creation of honest, developed, emancipated and patriotic society demands character building from the childhood. And school is the germination ground for young seeds to grow and flourish,'' Mr Azad said.

The Chief Minister said the government was focusing on the expansion and consolidation of both school and higher education and massive infrastructure development and placing of qualified staff had been set in motion.

However, he said, ''Imparting of quality education depends upon the teaching staff as teachers are the architect of nation.'' He asked them to make dedication and missionary zeal motto of their noble profession.

Mr Azad said education should not be treated as merely a commercial activity and job giving sector. But responsibility towards nation and society must be its main purpose.
