Padmashri for Dr Rajasekaran

Chennai, Jan 26: Noted urologist Arjunan Rajasekaran was conferred with the prestigious Padmashri award on the occasion of the 58th Republic Day.

Dr Rajasekharan, who worked as a Professor of Urology at Kilpauk Medical College and Madras Medical College for more than two decades, is also a pioneer andrologist, who set up an exclusive Centre for Andrology and Infertility.

Born on November 17, 1935, Dr Rajasekaran, was a recipient of Urology Gold Medal and Fellowhip of Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) Doctorate of Science, (Honoris Causa) from Dr M G R Medical University for his distinguished service in the field.

He has served as Chairman, Standing Selection Committee for Faculty Recruitment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences and member, Post Graduate Medical Education, Medical Council of India, National Instuite of Health and Family Welfare and Indian Council of Medical Research.

Dr Rajasekaran introduced 14 post doctoral fellowship cources in various subspecialities in different states by recognising 'Centres of Excellence' for providing educational and training opportunities in the country.
