SBI to redesign 200 branches in Chandigarh Circle

Chandigarh, Dec 11 (UNI) In order to provide better customer care services and streamline functioning, the State Bank of India (SBI) plans to redesign about 200 of its branches at important centres of the Chandigarh Circle, comprising the states of Punjab, Haryana, J&K and Himachal Pradesh by December next year.

This was disclosed by Mr Yogesh Agarwal, Managing Director (National Banking Group), SBI today after inaugurating the Bank's three redesigned branches in the city. These three branches are in Sector-22, Sector-31 and Air Force Station.

Branch Redesigning is being done by SBI as a part of its Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) project with focus on customer convenience.

Mr Agarwal said to start with five branches of the Bank have been re-designed in the city so far. Ten more branches are being re-designed in Chandigarh within next one month, he added.

Mr Agarwal said the Bank has already started a number of initiatives under BPR Project and created centralised processing centres for Retail Loans, SME Loans, Trade Finance and Pensions at all important centres besides putting in branches Relationship Managers for High Networth Individual Customers as well as for SME customers and Grahak Mitra for taking care of general walk in customers at the branch.

Speaking on re-designing, Mr Agarwal said that this involves creating more customer area in the banking hall, proper seating arrangements for customers, taking back office functions away from the banking hall and personalised service to all customers.

A new position of Customer Relations Officer has been created under this initiative for attending to all customers walking in the branch for any work other than routine cash receipts, payments and cheque book issue etc which are taken care of by Single Window Operators.

He said even Branch Manager has been freed from routine tasks / maintenance functions to take care of customer relationship aspect.

A person desirous of opening an account in these branches can walk away within 10-15 minutes with a kit containing pass book, cheque book, ATM card, Internet Banking ID / password, he added.

Mr Agarwal said that all cheque books issued to the existing customers of these branches will now be personalised, that is name of the customer will be printed on the cheque leaves. These personalised cheque books are issued by Bank's Liability Centralised Processing Centre (LCPC) at New Delhi.
