Brail literacy prog to create awareness about visually challenged
Kolkata, Apr 20 (UNI) A city based NGO, Society for Welfare of the Blind, has created an innovative programme called 'Brail Literacy For All'.
The programme would create awareness about the hurdles faced by the visually challenged people and scripts they read, by teaching brail to other students of various colleges and universities of the state, who are not visually challenged.
Secretary of the organisation Biswajit Ghosh told UNI that common people do not have any clear idea about the visually challeged people.
''We want to bring them to the society's mainstream so that they can study in colleges and universities like other normal students,'' he added.
Several such campaigns have already started in Jadavpur University and a few local colleges.
''Teaching brail to students will help us to get volunteers from the colleges who will be able to teach the blind in NGOs, in blind schools and even at the individual level,'' he added.
Regular workshops, documentary film shows and lectures would be organised in the college and university campuses and CDs would also be distributed.
