Madikeri students to get EDUSAT connection
Madikeri, Karnataka, Apr 7 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today assured the student community of Kodagu district that they would soon get a connectivity to EDUSAT.
In his interaction with the student community here, he said, ''I want students of Madikeri to be linked through satellite so that you all can interact freely. I am working on this project and talking to the Department of Space so that this goal can be achieved soon.'' He explained to the students at length the launch of EDUSAT on September 20, 2004 and the details of the EDUSAT programme. The primary objective of the EDUSAT programme was to provide support to education through low-cost ground segments and reach every nook and carner of India, he said.
The satellite was specially configured to have multiple beams covering different regions of India. The satellite operating in Ku band in 17 G Hz frequency facilitated the use of small ransmit/receive ground terminals and provided communication coverage through five regional beams and a national beam.
This system would be primarily for school, college and higher level of education. However it would also support non-formal education, he added.
He later administered a six-point oath to students urging them to pursue their education with dedication and excellence, plant five saplings each and constantly endeavour to remove the pain of the suffering brethren.
