Priyanka Gandhi to be chief campaigner for Congress: report
New Delhi, July 4: Congress has decided to project Priyanka Gandhi as the party's face for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
After several speculations on Priyanka's role in the UP assembly elections, it is now said that she would spearhead the Congress party's campaign in the state.
Seeing Priyanka Gandhi at its helm is no more a dream for Congress; it's a desperation
According to a report in The Hindu, Congress spokesperson Satya Dev Tripathi said that Priyakna would venture out into UP and will hold close to 150 rallies in the state.
Even as the party awaits the return of Rahul Gandhi, who is curently on a vacation, it is said that the party will hold a convention once he is back who will then launch the party's campaign.
If the reports are true, then Priyanka would be seen with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi taking on the rival parties.
Over the past few weeks, several leaders within the Congress party have sought a bigger role for Priyanka Gandhi but she has not accepted any official position yet.
Earlier it was said that Priyanka along with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi would decide what role she would play in the UP where Assembly polls are due early next year.
Senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad too had already favoured that Priyanka campaigns all over the state.
Though she hasn't taken on any official post, Priyanka is often seen campaigning for Congress in Amethi and Rae Bareli.
