Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 29: As a large number of people seek to meet him, over a dozen policemen now guard the entrance to the Ghaziabad apartment block where Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lives.

Personnel drawn from Uttar Pradesh Police and Delhi Police are deployed at the entrance to the Girnar apartment complex in Ghaziabad, near Delhi. A metal detector has also been placed at the entrance to the block.

According to police, 10 men from Delhi Police and four from Uttar Pradesh Police have been stationed outside the Kejriwal residence, in consultation with the secretary to the chief minister, Rajendra Kumar.

"Hundreds of people are coming here daily. We don't want any untoward incident to happen. We have talked with him (Kumar) and he has agreed to our proposal," Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police Muniraj told IANS, adding that a metal detector has also been placed at the apartment complex.

Although the Delhi Police personnel were plainclothes men, the Uttar Pradesh Police officials were in uniform.

Kejriwal, despite being persuaded several times, has remained adamant that he does not want any personal security officers from either Uttar Pradesh or Delhi.

On Sunday, he refused to meet the city magistrate of Ghaziabad who had arrived at his residence to persuade him to accept security cover.
