Government directs internet providers to block over 800 porn sites
New Delhi, Aug 3: If reports are to be believed, the government has crack the whip on pornographic websites in the country, directing internet providers to block over 800 porn websites.
According to a report in The Economic Times, it said that the government sent a notice to service providers on Friday, July 31 evening to block 857 porn sites.
However, according to the report the industry was not completely willing to cooperate with the government unless it came up with clear guidelines.
Many of them took to social media to vent their outrage, after they were not able to access popular porn sites.
Meanwhile, earlier this month the Supreme Court had said that adults watching porn in the foour walls of their room does not amount to crime [Private viewing of porn within four walls not a crime: SC].
IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had a meeting with officials last September where the 'problems of porn' were discussed and the government had urged for better ways to improve the blocking infrastructure.
