Paris attack coincides with reported death of Jihadi John

New Delhi, Nov 14: The Paris terror attacks which has claimed over a 120 lives incidentally took place a day after the United States claimed that they had killed Jihadi John, a key militant of the ISIS who was behind the beheading of Western hostages.

The Pentagon had stated that it is "reasonably certain" that a US drone strike in Syria has killed the Islamic State militant known as "Jihadi John".

Although there is no co-relation between the killing of Jihadi John and the Paris attacks, several ISIS sympathizers are already celebrating on Twitter. There are congratulatory messages being sent out on ISIS sympathetic handles with the hashtag Paris is burning.

However it would be too early to link the death of Jihadi John and the Paris attacks. The Paris attacks were extremely well coordinated and could have taken months of planning.

So far no terror group has claimed responsibility for the deadly Paris attacks. However the French officials believe that it could be the handiwork of the ISIS or those sympathetic to the group. The officials are also exploring the possibility whether some Syria returnees could have carried out this attack. The French intelligence had warned of attacks that could likely be carried out by Syrian returnees sympathetic to the ISIS or even part of the group.

Coincidence:

It could be a sheer coincidence that the Paris attacks took place a day after the US claimed that Jihadi John was killed. The US had stated that Thursday's attack in Raqqa had hit the intended target, but it would take time to "formally declare that we have had success,” a statement from the US read.

Jihadi John alias Mohammed Emwazi is a Kuwaiti-born British militant who appeared in videos of the beheadings of Western hostages. He is said to be one of the targets in the US strike that took place on Thursday.
