Indonesia: A man was found dead in a 23-foot giant python on Sunday after locals cut the snake's belly as they found the creature crawling very slowly near the crop where he used to work.

According to reports, the deceased identified as Akbar, a farmer in the village of Saliburo on the eastern island of Sulawasi.

"We were immediately suspicious that the snake had swallowed Akbar because around the site we found palm fruit, his harvesting tool and a boot," said Junaidi, a senior village official, who like many Indonesians goes by only one name.

According to a senior official of the village, the family members of Akbar and villagers launched search operations after he did not return home.

However, the villagers spotted a hefty python crawling slowly near the field where usually Akbar works. The family suspected python to have swallowed the man as they saw his tools and palm fruits near the snake.

With the help of villagers, the snake was killed and the akbar was brought out after cutting its belly.

Later the villagers conducted the last rites. Usually the 20-foot snake was seen swallowing animals but swallowing a man was a rare case for the villagers.
