Uttar Pradesh voted in the first phase of the assembly elections. The reports trickling in suggest that there is a clear wave in favour of the BJP. It is clear that despite all parties claiming that they will come out victorious, there is clear resentment towards the ruling Samajwadi Party. The manner in which the people have spoken after polling shows that they see hope in the promises made by the BJP.
The people in UP are clearly upset with increased corruption and crime during the SP rule. People have also questioned the handling of crime and corruption related issues during the BSP's rule as well. There has been a 362 per cent increase in rape cases and incidentally UP tops the list in the country where crime statistics are concerned. The people are also questioning the illegal mining scam and PWD scam worth thousands of crores that broke out during the SP's regime.
In addition to this the people are upset with the manner in which farmer related issues have been handled. The farmers have been ignored as a result of which several of them have committed suicide due to heavy debts. Apart from these issues, the SP's family feud and alliance with the Congress too have not gone down too well with the people. This is the reason why the people are distancing themselves from the SP.
The voter of UP has been complaining that during the BSP's rule there were only scams and statues being built. There was no real work that took place. The BSP has ignored the Dalits and the common man. Instead the BSP has favoured the mafia and even chosen people with criminal backgrounds to contest the elections. This has led to a great deal of resentment among the people which has made the voter distance themselves from the BSP.
Further the people are also upset that the BSP and SP have relied on vote bank politics apart from appeasement. As a result of this they have favoured one particular community and ignored the rest. On the other hand the people have shown faith in the BJP which has assured progress for all. The people trust the BJP's slogan, "Sab ka saath, sab ka vikas."
The BJP in its manifesto has promised development for the farmers, youth, poor, women and all others. This has largely impressed the voter in UP and the people are yearning for a change and will vote the BJP to power in the state.
