Please take my life. Let my husband live to protect the country: Lance Naik Hanumanthappa's wife

Bengaluru, Feb 9: Siachen's miraculous survivor, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa's wife Mahadevi on Tuesday, Feb 9, prayed for her husband's life.

While talking to Bangalore Mirror, Mahadevi said, "Dear God, the next time you want to take a life, please take mine. Let my husband live to protect the country,he should survive." The couple has an 18-month-old daughter, Netra.

"We are thankful to the army authorities for having continued with the rescue operation and pulling him out. We are also thankful to our fellow villagers for their prayers", Mahadevi was quoted as saying. [Lance Naik Hanumanthappa in comatose, next 48 hours critical]

Hanumanthappa is battling for his life in Delhi's Army Research and Referral Hospital and next 24 to 48 hours are said to be extremely crucial for his health.

Hanumanthappa hails from Betadur village in Dharwad district of Karnataka.

Hanumanthappa was about to reach his home next week, on a holiday.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and army chief General Dalbir Singh visited the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) to get update on the condition of Hanumanthappa, who was found alive six days after being buried under 25 feet of snow for six days after an avalanche hit his post at the altitude of 19,600 feet close to the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan where the temperature was minus 45 degrees Celsius.

The other nine personnel at the post, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and eight other ranks of Madras Regiment, have died, according to Lt Gen D S Hooda, Northern Army Commander.
