Bankura people left thirsty as roads washed for Moon Moon's rally
On Tuesday afternoon, local authorities washed a 3 kilometer stretch of the metal road to protect the Sen family from dust.
Ironically, this area of Bankura is parched during the Summer. In fact, there is no water supply by taps to the households here. While few manage to scrape through the taps twice day, others have to depend on natural sources of water like ponds and wells.
Basudeb Acharya, a 9 time MP from the area said,"I am amazed to see local authorities pouring huge amounts of water on the roads to beat the dust when people are unable to get access to drinking water. I campaign every day and by the time I get back home I am covered with red dust. I take a shower and clean myself. How can she represent the people if she cannot fight the dust of the area she is representing."
Back in Kolkata, BJP President Rahul Sinha said,"I am amazed to see local authorities pouring huge amounts of water on the roads to beat the dust when people are unable to get access to drinking water. I campaign every day and by the time I get back home I am covered with red dust. I take a shower and clean myself. How can she represent the people if she cannot fight the dust of the area she is representing."
According to a report by Hindustan Times, at 4 pm, Ria, Rima, their father and TMC candidate Moon Moon Sen stepped inside the heavily-guarded local kali temple to offer Puja, while music from a band accompanying them bellowed some Uttam-Suchitra hits, which included the popular "Ei poth jodi na shesh hoi" (meaning, may this road never end).
