Palanisamy wins trust vote: 122 for, 11 against
All MLAs backing EPS voted in his favour
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palanisamy has won the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly. The speaker had ordered a division of votes after rejecting demands for a secret ballot. All MLAs backing EPS voted in his favour.
A total of 122 MLAs voted in support of Palanisamy while 11 rebel AIADMK MLAs voted against him. The Congress as well as the DMK staged a walkout from the assembly. Sasikala Natarajan's proxy, Palanisamy will continue to be the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
Earlier there was chaos in the TN assembly, with the house being adjourned twice. This forced the speaker to evict the DMK MLAs from the floor of the house. Marshals were brought in to evict the DMK MLAs who had torn papers and even manhandled the speaker.
As a result, the speaker had to walk out briefly. He however returned by 1 pm following which proceedings commenced, but were adjourned again until 3 pm.
