Lucknow, Feb 4: On Jan 28, a 30-year-old widow was raped by a 32-year-old man at an isolated spot in Meerganj tehsil of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh.

After committing the dastardly act, the accused even threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone.

The rape victim, somehow mustered the courage to approach police station to lodge the complaint. But shockingly, police officials refused to file an FIR and instead, they informed village pradhan about the matter.

Pradhan, then, called all panchayat members in front of the police station, where accused was also called.

After listening to her ordeal, the panchayat members told the accused to touch the victim's feet and he was let go scot-free. The poor woman was also asked to remain quiet over the issue after that.

But Panchayat's strange behaviour and police officials' lack of action did not deter the braveheart, who again went one step ahead and approached the Superintendent of Police, who promised her to take appropriate action against accused, panchayat members and even police officials, who gave an eyewash over the entire incident, TOI reported.
