Kolkata, Nov 21: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Srinjoy Bose on Friday, Nov 21. The MP has been arrested in connection with his alleged link with infamous Saradha scam.
This has become a major setback for TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as Srinjoy is one of her close aides. The investigating agency summoned Bose and grilled him for six hours on Friday.
Just days after Trinamool Congress and former director general of the state armed police Rajat Majumdar's arrest, Bose was summoned to CBI office in Kolkata. CBI arrested Bose following the recommendation of Serious Frauds Investigation Office.
Bose has been accused of blackmailing the kingpin of Saradha scam -- Sudipto Sen. Earlier it was reported that Bose allegedly used to take Rs 60 lakh per month from Sen.
The arrested Rajya Sabha MP is the editor of the Bengali daily Sambad Pratidin. Earlier in one of his letters to CBI, Sen had named Bose who allegedly had asked to shell out Rs 20 lakh a month to make a Bengali actor as the ambassador of the channel. Bose allegedly had assured Sen of protection due to his connection with Mamata Banerjee.
According to sources, Bose had helped Sen and Saradha Group when it had started its media venture in 2010. The Rajya Sabha MP allegedly had taken money from Sen at different occasions.
The CBI claimed that Bose had misled the investigation as his statements did not match with documents which have been seized by the the investigating agency.
