At around 2:20pm an IED was lobbed at the Mirik Municipality premises located at Krishna Nagar in Mirik. The IED was on the lines of a Socket Bomb (explosive substance packed in a metal socket where after explosion the metal socket pieces act as splinters).

"As soon as the IED landed on the premises, Security forces present in the premises poured water over it. The IED did not explode. We have called in the Bomb Squad. They will examine what type of explosive it was. No one is injured in the incident" stated Aswini Kumar Roy, Sub Divisional Officer, Mirik.

A large police team is present at the spot. "We have started the investigation. A case has been registered at the Mirik police station" stated a police officer.

Prior to there were incidents of blasts in Darjeeling, Kalimpong police station, Sukhiapokhari police station, Lhodhama, Peshok Bridge and 27th Mile on the National Highway. A civic police personnel had died in the Kalimpong blast on August 19 along with a home guard personnel grievously injured.
