New Delhi, Nov 15: A 12-year-old boy was allegedly strangled to death and his teenage cousin sister sexually assaulted by one of their distant relative, who was living with them, in Swaroop Nagar area of northwest Delhi, police said on Saturday, Nov 14.
The incident came to light when the girl's 10-year-old brother reported the matter to their landlady after he saw the greasily scene this morning.
The prime suspect, was a distant relative and used to share the residence with the victims, is at large, a police official said.
The elders of the family were not present at home when the incident took place. "Her parents had gone to participate in the last rites of her grandfather," a senior police officer said.
Police said both were rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where the boy was declared brought dead and the girl is undergoing treatment. The father of the girl works as a factory labourer.
According to police, around 6.30 AM, the girl's younger brother spotted the duo in an unconscious state and bleeding profusely.
He informed the landlady who in turn made a PCR call. "The deceased boy had a bed sheet wound around his neck while the girl was found with head injury. Also, blood was observed on her private parts leading to suspicion that she was sexually assaulted," the officer said.
Around seven police teams are working on the case, registered under the relevant sections including the the POCSO act, and the relatives of the prime suspect have been questioned, he said.
